Thanks, Ross! I’m really enjoying this RAIN topic. I’ve done some research on my own and wanted to share my findings—someone else might find them useful too.
Emotions: The Raw Data
These are automatic reactions that originate from the brain’s limbic system (like fear, joy, or disgust). They’re primal, instinctual, and short-lived. We have no control over them.
Feelings: The Processed Data
These are influenced by personal experiences, beliefs, memories, and thoughts. Two people can feel differently about the same emotion, and these feelings can endure and evolve over time.
Mindfulness Practice
Through techniques like mindfulness, you can learn to observe your emotions without getting swept away by the ensuing feelings.
The Goal
To feel more and think less.
